Tide Tips & Information

How to Read a Tide Chart

Tide charts show high and low tide times and heights. High tide is when water reaches its highest point; low tide is when it recedes. The difference between high and low is the tidal range.

Best Times for Shelling

The best time for shelling is during low tide and as the tide is receding. This exposes more beach and brings shells closer to shore.

Beach Driving & Tides

For beach driving, low tide is preferred as the sand is firmer and more compact. Avoid driving during high tide when soft sand can cause vehicles to get stuck.

Fishing Tide Tips

Many anglers prefer fishing during incoming tides (rising water) as fish move closer to shore to feed. The hour before and after high tide can be particularly productive.
